For many years, new homes built in the UK have been fitted with cooker hoods as standard. However, more recently there has been a move towards stylish, stainless steel chimney hoods, not just due to their performance, but as aesthetics is seen as added-value to the kitchen.

However, aesthetics, style and functionality aside, the main complaint over these units is noise. A cooker hood at full speed in a domestic kitchen can be very noisy. Another disappointing fact about cooker hoods is that, although they are capable of high performance, due to the environment of a kitchen and with no enclosure around the cooking surface, a cooker hood will only extract only about 35% of cooking fumes and odours.

For the first time a system has been developed that can overcome both the noise issue and the amount of fumes and odours extracted.

The new System Cooker Hoods from Vent-Axia have been designed to be extremely quiet and extract up to 90% of all fumes and odours. This is achieved by the cooker hood being connected to either an external wall fan or a Multivent (central extract) fan. This means that, as the fan is remote to the cooker hood, the noise is limited thus making the unit virtually silent. The increased performance is achieved by a new patented system of creating an air curtain around the cooking surface, where a small fan built into the chimney draws air from the kitchen and pushes it through a small groove that runs around the edge of the cooker hood.

This system not only reduces the noise, but prevents fumes and odours from spreading around the kitchen.

Introducing the new system cooker hood range from Vent-Axia, a range of stylish, stainless steel cooker hoods that can either be connected to an external wall fan or to a Multivent central extract system.

Incorporated within the chimney is a centrifugal fan that draws air from the kitchen and creates an air curtain around the cooking area, thus reducing the amount of steam and smell that can circulate around a kitchen.

Traditional cooker hoods with integral fans, although very effective only actually remove 35-40% of the cooking fumes allowing the rest to spoil into the kitchen. This unsatisfactory situation now has a new-patented solution.

Within the system cooker hood is a manually operated switch that switches the integral fan in order to activate the air curtain.

This supplementary fan takes approximately 90m³/h of kitchen air and creates an air curtain around the cooking area.

The air curtain keeps all cooking fumes inside the enclosed area, forcing the fumes through the draw off area of the cooker hood. Using this system 80-95% of all cooking fumes are extracted through the ventilation system. A manual switch at the rear of the hood operates a damper that shuts out the extract duct when the unit is not in use, thus reducing any possible draughts.

Like any cooker hood the system cooker hood requires a form of ventilation system, either by using our existing Multivent and incorporating it into a system or another development, an external wall fan. The fan when mounted on an external wall creates the extract for the unit, drawing air from the cooker hood through a 125mm duct to atmosphere.
